Tucson, AZ – March 21, 2014 – Members of RTCA Special Committee 213 (SC-213), including Co-Chair and Universal Avionics' Director of Systems Engineering, Patrick Krohn, were recognized on March 6, 2014 in Washington, D.C. with Aviation Week's prestigious Laureate Award for their work in Avionics and Systems. Mr. Krohn was on-hand to accept this award recognizing SC-213's development of global, consensus-based system and performance standards that are allowing the FAA and the industry to push the boundaries of vision-aided operations in a safe and efficient way.

"The Aviation Week and Space Technology Laureate Award is an exceptional honor for RTCA SC-213," said Mr. Krohn. "The committee has been an international collaborate effort of government and industry consensus requirements for current and further credit for SVS and EFVS systems for operations down to 300 RVR," he added. "It is an honor to be a co-chairman of the RTCA SC-213 with Tim Etherington."

SC-213, Enhanced Flight Vision Systems and Synthetic Vision Systems (EFVS/SVS) was established in December 2006. The group is currently developing Minimum Aviation System Performance Standards (MASPS)-level guidance for SVS, EFVS, Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS) and combined architectures to identify intended operations and systems architectures and enable the development of Minimum Operational Performance Standards (MOPS); and DO-315B, MASPS for EVS, SVS, Combined Vision Systems and EFVS.

Aviation Week's Laureate Awards were created over 50 years ago to acknowledge the exceptional achievements of individuals and teams in aerospace, aviation and defense. The Laureate Awards are presented annually at a formal reception and awards ceremony.
