FAA Grants Universal Avionics WAAS-FMS Part 25 Supplemental Type Certificate

Tucson, Arizona – February 1, 2008 – Universal Avionics Systems Corporation announced today that a Part 25 Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) has been issued by the FAA Transport Airplane Directorate; Los Angeles Aircraft Certification Office for their WAAS enabled Flight Management Systems. The WAAS Part 25 STC flight was conducted in a Bombardier CL-601-3A and the STC includes Bombardier CL-600, CL-601 AND CL-601-3R’S. Universal’s new generation WAAS/SBAS enabled Flight Management Systems, (UNS-1Lw, UNS-1Ew, UNS-1Espw, and UNS-1Fw), are now available for Business, Commercial, and Regional aircraft around the world. Universal’s WAAS-FMS makes the concept of flying accurate lateral precision with vertical guidance at all supported airports a reality. This highly accurate SBAS (Space Based Augmentation System) system improves accuracy, availability and integrity of GPS-derived position, increasing navigation capabilities for all classes of aircraft in all phases of flight.

In addition to having the capability for Non-Precision and LNAV/VNAV approaches, this new WAAS-FMS provides approval for the over 700 FAA published SBAS WAAS/LPV approaches, as well as being ready for those yet to come. The published WAAS/LPV approach criterion defines minima as low as 200 feet with ½-mile visibility.
