Universal Avionics Introduces New Enhanced Vision Camera

Tucson, Arizona – April 20, 2006 - Universal Avionics Systems Corporation today announced at the Aircraft Electronic Association (AEA) Convention, it has reached an agreement with CMC Electronics to market CMC’s SureSight® M-Series™ Enhanced Vision System (EVS). When interfaced with Universal Avionics EFI-890R large format flat panel display, MFD-640 flat panel display or their UCD (Electronic Flight Bag), the pilot’s situational awareness at night and during periods of reduced visibility is enhanced, minimizing the risk of Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) occurrences and Approach and Landing Accidents (ALA). This low cost fully automatic IR camera meets RTCA DO-160E Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures for Airborne Equipment.

With a 36°(H) x 27°(V) field of view, (normal visual field of view), 320 x 240 pixel video compatible frame rate, this small 2.54 inch (W) x 2.40 inch (H) x 6.03 inch (L) camera easily mounts in the tail fin, nose or belly of the aircraft.

When displayed on the Universal Avionics EFI-890R or MFD-640 flat panel displays, the image size will be doubled to 640x480 allowing for a large screen image.

Advantages include the ability to check the runway for obstacles prior to take-off or landing. In most cases terrain and other obstacles will also be visible.

“CMC is excited to work with Universal Avionics,” said Mike Venables, CMC EVS Marketing Manager. “The SureSight M-Series Enhanced Vision System (EVS) when integrated with Universal’s flat panel displays and electronic flight bag will increases situational awareness for the pilot in good to some inferior weather conditions, day or night.”

More details about integration with the EFI-890R, MFD-640 and UCD will be forthcoming in the second half of 2006. Shipments of the SureSight M-Series Enhanced Vision System (EVS) are scheduled to begin during the second half of 2006.
