Tucson, AZ – Universal Avionics Systems Corporation (UASC) announced that Air Canada Jazz selected Universal Avionics to supply avionics for a fleet-wide Dash 8 avionics modernization program. Planned for installation on 60+ aircraft, this modernization program includes dual UNS-1E FMS/GPS as well as a single Universal Avionics TAWS (Terrain Awareness Warning System) and a single UniLink UL-701 airborne digital datalink.

TAWS - Universal Avionics TAWS provides many exclusive features including, three views of video quality TAWS displays, the ability to provide TAWS alerts for the entire FMS flight plan via “flight path intent” monitoring and the ability to display TAWS on the FMS CDU (Control Display Unit).
UniLink - Universal Avionics UL-701 features complete CMU functionality in a small (1 MCU), lightweight (<5 Lb) form-factor that also includes an embedded, 20 watt, VHF Com radio
The UL-701 supports traditional ACARS functions such as OOOI, AOC Messaging, D-ATIS, AMDAR, etc. and also is capable of providing Graphical Weather Maps as well as offering a defined path to technologies such as VDL Mode 2 and CPDLC.
Installation design, STC certification and integration kits for the Air Canada Jazz Dash 8 avionics modernization program, are being provided by Field Aviation East, Ltd., Toronto, Canada. The initial installation and STC took place earlier this year and follow-on installations are in progress
