Tucson, AZ – Universal Avionics Systems Corporation (UASC) announced that Skyways Express AB of Sweden, Air Baltic of Latvia, SAS Commuter of Scandinavia, Denimair of the Netherlands and Air Iceland selected Universal Avionics to supply avionics for their Fokker 50 fleets. Some 47+ aircraft will receive the Universal TAWS (Terrain Awareness Warning System) while some will also receive the Universal UNS-1L FMS/GPS to comply with the Eurocontrol Precision RNAV (P-RNAV) requirements.
Earlier this year the FAA issued a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the TAWS on a Fokker 50 while EASA approval is expected shortly. The existing FMS STC is adapted to include the UNS-1L as well. The venture was made possible in cooperation with DAC International, Inc. of Austin Texas who provided the marketing/sales expertise and engineering.
The Universal Avionics TAWS will enable the Fokker 50 operators to comply with the worldwide TAWS mandate effective in 2005, while the FMS will provide the operators with Precision RNAV during terminal operations around many European airports effectively starting in November 2004.
