Universal Avionics Authorized Dealers, Clay Lacy Aviation and Chicago Jet Group, both expect to have FANS 1/A+ certification for the Gulfstream GIV/GIVSP/GV completed by fourth quarter of 2014.
"We are very excited to have worked with many operators and aircraft types to bring this technology into the retrofit market," said Robert Clare, Universal Avionics Director of Sales. "Universal is committed to being the industry leader in FANS solutions," he added.
Combined with Universal Avionics SBAS-Flight Management System (FMS) and data capable Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), the UniLink® UL-800/801 Communications Management Unit (CMU) provides standard capabilities of an airborne data link system, plus the opportunity to gain FANS 1/A+ operational approval. Operators benefit from significant operational efficiencies through investment in FANS 1/A+ technology. For instance, in 2015, operators with FANS 1/A+ will be allowed to fly the North Atlantic Track System (NATS) between FL350 and FL390 (inclusive), which are the most efficient routes and altitudes, whereas other operators will have to navigate around this airspace. In 2017, all North Atlantic airspace will require FANS 1/A+ between FL350-FL390 (inclusive), and other operators will have to travel significantly further around the airspace. FANS 1/A+ considerably improves communication in oceanic areas, improving safety and performance within the operating environment.
The installation of Universal Avionics FANS 1/A+ package provides operators with the use and benefits of Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Contract (ADS-C). This package also provisions the aircraft to meet Link 2000+ and NextGen mandates which are right around the corner.
