Manufacturing Engineer

 

Universal Avionics Systems Corporation (www.uasc.com) seeks a Manufacturing Engineer to be responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of manufacturing methods on a mixed-model, single piece flow, electro-mechanical final assembly line.  This includes definition and optimization of assembly sequences, tooling, line design, material presentation and operator training requirements.  Assists in the development of graphical, electronic work instructions and also in the development of time standards. 



Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and document the final assembly process for new avionics products, insuring that manufacturing methods result in the repeatable reproduction of units which conform to type design data.
  • Work closely with circuit board assembly line Process Engineers to identify root cause and corrective action for any board line quality “escapes”
  • Under general supervision, represent Manufacturing Engineering on the Material Review Board, and Configuration Control Board, as required.
  • Respond promptly to team requests for assistance and be readily available to team for unscheduled meetings and necessary problem solving.
  • Play an active participatory and at times leadership role in daily tactical team standup meetings and in weekly strategic improvement meetings.
  • Improve the quality of new products being introduced into Manufacturing through active participation in Design for Manufacturability meetings and involvement in the New Product Introduction process.
  • Improve the quality and reliability of products through regular, disciplined reviews of data and processes using continuous improvement, six sigma quality, SPC or similar tools. 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering is required.

Experience:

2 - 5 years experience in an engineering role in a high reliability manufacturing environment.  Proficiency with AutoCad, ProE, Solidworks, or other CAD programs required.  Board assembly experience (SMT and Through Hole) also strongly desired.  Six Sigma Quality and/or Statistical Process Control and Lean Manufacturing experience desired. 

Due to the nature of the projects we work on, US citizenship or legal permanent US residency status is required.

This is a full-time (40-hours per week) position on-site in Tucson, Arizona.  This job may occasionally require lifting of objects up to 30 pounds.   

Computer Skills:

Intermediate to advanced skills in all Microsoft Office programs, Proficiency in AutoCad or other CAD programs.  Data base design and some programming experience in Visual Basic or C is a plus.
